After a successful tour of the US and Canada, the critically acclaimed solo show, Spitting In The Face Of The Devil, returns to New York City for an Encore Performance at the United Solo Theatre Festival. Written and performed by Bob Brader and directed and developed by Suzanne Bachner. The award winning solo show has been produced in numerous venues and festivals including the New York International Fringe Festival, Garage Theatre Group’s Solo Fest, Inaugural United Solo Theatre Festival, Orlando International Fringe Festival, Inaugural Woodstock Memoir Festival (headlined by the McCourt Brothers—Frank, Alphie & Malachy), San Francisco Fringe Festival, Atlantic Fringe Festival, Omega Institute, Victoria Fringe Festival, London Fringe Festival and the Montreal Fringe Festival.

In this daring, uplifting and often comedic solo show, acclaimed monologist Bob Brader tells the gripping true story of discovering that his abusive and charismatic ex-Marine father is a pedophile. A powerful tale of personal survival and triumph, Winner of five Best of Fest Awards including Best Show, London Fringe Festival and Best Script, United Solo Festival. Hailed by critics as “brilliant”, “masterful” and “unforgettable.”

The creative team includes lighting design by Cory Pattak and technical direction by Katie Chai.

Bob Brader (playwright/performer) Spitting In The Face Of The Devil, Bob’s acclaimed monologue, has won numerous awards including “Best Show of the London Fringe” from the Beat Arts in London and “Best of the Fringe” at the San Francisco Fringe Festival. Bob made his international debut at the London Fringe Festival with his 2nd solo show, Preparation Hex, a hemorrhoid tale and love story, which toured through Canada and played in NYC at the 3rd Annual United Solo Festival. Last summer, he headlined the 2-actor international touring production of CIRCLE (Most Daring Production, London Fringe 2013). He was in the original cast of We Call Her Benny, in the revival of Sex Ed and performed in the recent tour and original five-month NYC run of BITE with the John Montgomery Theatre Company, for which he is Executive Director. Other New York Theatre credits include Bryan Enk and Matt Gray’s supernatural theatrical serial, Penny Dreadful, at the Brick Theater (Teddy Roosevelt) and numerous DMTheatrics’ productions: Girls School Vampire, Bitch Macbeth, Who in the Hell is the Real Live Lorelei Lee? and Antony and Cleopatra (Caesar, OOBR Award). Bob is currently working on his new solo show, Smoker. His plays are published on Indie Theater Now. Suzanne Bachner (director/developer) is an award-winning playwright and director and the director and developer of Bob Brader’s acclaimed solo shows. Her play, CIRCLE, ran for five months Off Broadway, was performed nationally, optioned for production in Australia and called “ingenious” by The New York Times. Last summer, her new 2-actor production of CIRCLE completed a 4-month 7-City Sold-Out International Tour and was awarded “Most Daring Show” of the London Fringe 2013. Playwriting and directing: a six month NYC run of her cult hit, Icons & Outcasts; a five month NYC run of BITE; her epic new play, Brilliant Mistake, a San Diego commission, which the Coast News called "A work of pure genius!" and her celebrated kaleidoscopic memoir play, We Call Her Benny, which Broadway World called “the future of theatre”. Her plays have been seen at PS NBC@HERE, the Duplex, the National Arts Club, the Michael Weller Theatre, the Samuel French Short Play Festival, Pulse Ensemble Theatre and 20th Century Fox at the Coronet Theater in LA, among others. Directing: Frank D. Gilroy's The Subject Was Roses at the Celebration Theatre in Los Angeles and the short film, Jennifer Monroe, P.I., a finalist in Flicks on 66. Suzanne studied playwriting with Romulus Linney and Adrienne Kennedy and holds an MFA from the Actors Studio Drama School at the New School University. Other solo show directing and dramaturgy: Rosie Bitts’ new show, Stories of Love & Passion, which premiered in the Uno Fest in Victoria, BC and tours the US this fall. John Montgomery Theatre Company – JMTC (producer) is a NYC-based international collective of actors, writers, directors and designers creating original dramatic work with an emphasis on the collaborative process.
