He and his wife also have a young child, so it's also possible he wants a more regular schedule that will keep him in one place. And it probably doesn't hurt that he would likely have a lot of control over his schedule as well.

If he were to do the broadcast from New York (I think Ferguson does it in LA), he might even be able to do a Broadway show concurrently, if he really wants to do it.

But I agree...if the report is true, it's certainly an odd career move for someone who has only recently broken through to become a big time theatre star and seems on the verge of breaking big in film. I think he's already a pretty big name in television in the UK, thanks to GAVIN AND STACY, which he co-created and co-wrote as well as starred in. I also love his recurring (if twice can be considered recurring) character on DOCTOR WHO.
