Oh I agree and I am glad she is in this production - she's great and brings a kind of hauteur and gravitas that can't be matched. It was just a bit of wishful fantasizing about the musical aspects of the show - things that certainly will never happen. On its own merits the Williamstown production is superb.

Stoked that there is another good review. But where is the New York Times. do you think the NY producers requested that they not review it? would they/could they do that? would it matter? I assume the Times, unlike the hack show biz journalism that Jeremy Gerard has been providing (to no purpose and steady career decline), the Times is giving them time to get some performances under their belt. Total assumption. but I would be surprised if the Times does not weigh in on this at some point.Read the Isherwood review from 2008. I don't know, just do not think he is the man for the job here. I really hope Brantley sees it and really gives it careful thought. I do not think that the 2008 production sounds anything like what is at Williamstown. Theatermania reviewed it unfavorably but with insight. I appreciate that, even though I completely feel that what the critic wants the show to explore would make this a different kind of musical. I know that I am switching streams here but I personally, do not take the majority of Internet theater critics seriously. They can be anybody...no idea what cred they bring to the game and often they are not paid, as I understand it. At any rate, Whoever wrote the theatermania review at least seemed to know what they were talking about.
