Letterman commands that kind of money because he's Letterman and also has his hand in a number of projects through his own production company. He is a silent producer in a lot of projects in the entertainment field, including theater.

Corden would maybe see roughly $5 million to host the Late Late Show - if even that.

It took years for Ferguson to build up to making more than $10 million. So yes, the money is better than broadway, not as good as if he was a major blockbuster film star, but if he was to host the show, it would definitely be a great steady income over a long period of time and would enable him to build a brand for himself and that's the trick right there.
