Well, "old" is in the title of the original play, but it's not clear that Claire is dying of old age. The text in Duerenmatt says it was "50 years ago" that Claire, as a teen, got pregnant by Alfred and was run out of town, so she is approaching 70. I'm not sure that in the Valency adaptation a precise number of years is given since Claire left town, but in the stage directions she is described as being in her 50s.

no, it doesn't say she's dying but she is definitely at stage of her life where she is dealing with aspects of her past before she dies. she makes that clear.

the valency translation should be avoided at all costs.
