Any word on what will go into the Winter Garden, Palace or St James?

was the rumor at one point. Not sure they have capitalized the move as yet.

That will last about two seconds. I can't believe they don't want to try for Lincoln Center in the fall. That would be ideal.

I think if st James was going to happen it would have by now.

Lct is doing more co productions so it seems like commercial producers could put up a smaller investment for a percentage of return. Lct saves money on getting corporate sponsors and probably free rent and shared staff with Newhouse--not paying full cost of boxoffice like most commercial shows do. But lct may just want the lease money for Beaumont in fall to help pay king and I costs.

It's pretty crazy to not go to the Beaumont-it might run longer than if they were going into the St. James. (They'd have a built in audience.)

The only other rumor that's been bandied about is that The Visit might go to the Beaumont, but that would be a really quick transfer (even quicker than Side Show).

Just about everyone I know is saying that either THE VISIT or SIDE SHOW should go to the Beaumont. Can we assume that those involved with both productions have thought of this and have approached LCT, or not necessarily?

I think Side Show has been (misguidedly in my opinion) aiming to be a commercial production from the get go. The Visit could certainly work with LCT (I don't pretend to know if they're involved at this stage).

I think they expect a long commercial run for side show

In reply to: re: I've been saying that for weeks - bwaydiva1 01:32 pm EDT 08/06/14

I like the score and show a lot, I think the improvements were great at Kennedy center, but I just don't see it doing great business for a year on broadway. I really think that with the very good to stellar review in dc, the show still couldn't sell out the smallish Eisenhower the last weekend on a Saturday night. Some argue that it's dc, but there have been plenty of shows that sell in dc.

Oh I love the score (except they cut my favorite scene) and would gladly go see it. That said, I'm not the typical theatergoer. I like smaller, darker musicals (I wager 95% of the board could name my top 5 musicals of all time). The key audience demographic here won't buy into this show unless you put A-listers in the leads.

Here's my guess for your 5 favorite musicals: Sweeney Todd, Next to Normal, Fun Home, Urinetown, and The Scottsboro Boys. Am I close?

Hint: I like Sondheim a lot but Sweeney isn't my favorite. (Next to Normal and Fun Home are correct.)

Assuming that Side Show does transfer, which is no sure thing (I saw it in DC and really liked it) I think that the St. James would be a terrible venue for this show, which is not going to be able to come anywhere close to filing up that theater for any length of time. It would be much better off playing in a smaller playhouse, like Book of Mormon is doing at the O'Neil.

Speaking of which, why wouldn't it mmake sense (assuming that costs and down time would not be prohibitive) for BOM to transfer to the St. James with its 13,000 seats. I think the O'Neill has about 8700 seats.

I guess you were stating the number of seats over an eight-performance week? For the record, the St. James has about 1,700 seats (if they sell the balcony) and the O'Neill has approximately 1,100.

In a smaller house, Book of Mormon can charge more bucks for less tickets. They are in a highly profitable situation. I also think the show itself works better in a smaller house.

The Book of Mormon would have no problem filling up the St James and charging probably even more than what they charge now.

But why spend all the money to transfer when they're already the 3rd highest grossing show currently on Broadway? Before the end of the year it will be the 10th highest grossing Broadway show of all time. I'm sure they're very happy to stay at the O'Neill.

Yes, I think the BOOK OF MORMON producers are more than smart enough not to even consider moving the show to a larger theater at this point, for several reasons.

Supine it's close to your name. I'm surprised you haven't been to the theater since the shows rotate fairly often with the exception of longer runs like Aida or west side story. I think my first show was will Rogers follies at the palace.

Yes,kids are great. Grand kids are even greater and mush less work.
The Palace is a truly a must see, however. I guess my first show there must have been "Sweet Charity" back in ..what? ….1966? Dear god…I was close to being a kid. Though I always considered myself to be fully dressed with our without a smile.
