Most of the names mentioned below don't sell tickets. If the producers move ahead, I think they need someone with a little extra "oomph" above the title.

It should be noted that Corden was never actually confirmed to be doing the show. As far as I know, it was only rumored. So maybe the producers have someone up their sleeve...?

Jack Black was mentioned below -- I actually think that's intriguing and fun. More mainstream, would Jason Alexander finally return to Broadway for a role like this? I think Jason Segel could be wonderful in this role. And Jonah Hill would be another somewhat less obvious choice that could surprise people. But I suspect the latter two are too busy with film work.

Maybe a notch down on the "star" factor, but also interesting to me -- what about Patton Oswalt?

Corden would never have sold enough tickets on his name... he is known primarily to those who saw him in One Man Two Guvnors, maybe some Tony viewers who didn't see the show also, and those who know his work in England. Not a big group to sell a big musical on. I assume they were going off his radiant talent and the popular and well known name of the very successful title.

I feel like the producers want someone younger and more exciting than Jason Alexander.
