Assuming that Side Show does transfer, which is no sure thing (I saw it in DC and really liked it) I think that the St. James would be a terrible venue for this show, which is not going to be able to come anywhere close to filing up that theater for any length of time. It would be much better off playing in a smaller playhouse, like Book of Mormon is doing at the O'Neil.

Speaking of which, why wouldn't it mmake sense (assuming that costs and down time would not be prohibitive) for BOM to transfer to the St. James with its 13,000 seats. I think the O'Neill has about 8700 seats.

I guess you were stating the number of seats over an eight-performance week? For the record, the St. James has about 1,700 seats (if they sell the balcony) and the O'Neill has approximately 1,100.

In a smaller house, Book of Mormon can charge more bucks for less tickets. They are in a highly profitable situation. I also think the show itself works better in a smaller house.

The Book of Mormon would have no problem filling up the St James and charging probably even more than what they charge now.

But why spend all the money to transfer when they're already the 3rd highest grossing show currently on Broadway? Before the end of the year it will be the 10th highest grossing Broadway show of all time. I'm sure they're very happy to stay at the O'Neill.

Yes, I think the BOOK OF MORMON producers are more than smart enough not to even consider moving the show to a larger theater at this point, for several reasons.
