When I first saw The Loves Of Isadora it opened in Toronto as a roadshow, almost three hour movie complete with souvenir book (I still have it) and an intermission. By the time it went into general release it was a regular feature film with more than 35 minutes cut and renamed Isadora.

I saw Isadora at its premier engagement in Los Angeles and it was brilliant and moving with an extraordinary love scene in the nude with Redgrave and James Fox and her line "how beautiful a man's body is". Then on the advise of the critic for the LA Times Charles Champlain, the movie was hacked to pieces, losing not only that scene but the great scene where Isadora, remembering, sets fire to her hair. Over the years I've seen many other cut versions but wonder why someone at Universal doesn't restore all these cuts in a magnificent Blu Ray.

I agree. It was an extraordinary film before it was butchered. There is a subsequent "director's cut" release, but it is still 15 minutes short of the original. A similar thing with Dancing for Mr. B. I saw the entire program on PBS which was about three hours, but when released as a film it was anywhere between 80 and 80 minutes. When I later became friendly with Allegra Kent by reviewing her bio for publication (I still cherish a copy she personalized for me) I asked her about it. She said she has a video copy of the original broadcast and had hopes of it being released in its original length at some time in the future.

Edit: 80 and 90 minutes.
