When Medium Alison takes Joan to her home for Thanksgiving, the black curtain parts to reveal the house in full detail - furniture, staircase, bookshelves, and back wall now covered in wall paper. It was a very nice moment of stagecraft.

Yes, it was a nice moment! At the beginning of the show, the back wall is just brick, with various pieces of furniture stored back there. And then it is transformed with the beautiful William Morris-esque wallpaper, as Singapore Fling describes.
