in January

It doesn't say which role.

I would think that she is going to be a long line of Berthe's that do short stints during the run of Pippin.

Years ago I revisited CHICAGO to see Melanie Griffith as Roxie...how could I not!!!

She looked fantastic BUT
couldn't sing
couldn't dance
couldn't walk straight without the help of 2 guys

BUT...as many critics agreed..YOU COULD NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF HER!!

Despite all that she was STAR material!!!
and sadly I guess I can't remember anyone else inn the show

Wasn't the irony that all of Griffith's failings were completely consistent with the character of Roxie -- so that without having to try, she simply WAS the character.

I suppose it was irony but she was also pretty damn good though she did not, could not, fulfill the vocal or physical elements of the role. Consequently, she "appeared" pretty damn good due to audience projection with her persona. The musical is ironic and her performance paralleled the irony of the material. I am not sure what that really means. Brantley's review is attached. Take from it what you will. (He alludes to McEntire but, in my opinion, her performance can not be seriously compared to Ms. McEntire 's. )

When I saw her she was actually mouthing her next lines as other characters were talking.

And yet didn't Brantley say she was the best Roxie so far!!!!

...if she's going to be playing Fastrada, that is. She can't dance that well, though, can she?

LOL, she hasn't been with Don Johnson since the mid-1990s!

She's been with Antonio Bandaras for 15+ years (until they separated earlier this year, that is). They both made their Broadway debuts in 2003.

Now she will have two Broadway credits to Bandaras' solitary one. Ironic.

Nearly 20 years later and he still explains it better than anyone.

If you want to know why Oedipus is ironic but Alanis Morrisette is not, this is for you.

She'll make a wonderful Charles.

let's see... what role might she be going into? Catherine? She's a bit long in the tooth. Pippin? non-traditional sure, but doubtful. gosh.. what could it be?

Well, I'm sure you're unstated assumption is correct. But it isn't inconceivable that the same producers who cast her as Roxie Hart just a few years ago would put her in as Fastrada. Who knows if she wants to play the grandmother yet? Her real-life daughter is playing the Pippin-aged lead in a big new movie. Ya never know.
