I've got great memories of the film, mainly cuz of the Aggie dance in the locker room. I was just starting to accept my sexual orientation, and the film was a guilty pleasure that I could finally enjoy from a gay perspective.

I've never seen a live performance, so for those who did, how well or poorly did the film interpret the show? Did you enjoy the film less, the same or more than the show?

One of my favorite new Parton songs was the one that was cut, Ed Earl's ballad Where Stallions Run. I guess where it was placed a ballad slowed the momentum to the finale.

I loved the stage show. The film was pretty faithful to the show in many respects and the cinematography was beautiful. Dolly was ideally cast and stole the film. Charles Durning also was well cast. Burt was okay but Dom Deluise didn't quite work for me.

The one aspect of the show that was cut was the subplot featuring to new girls working at the house - Angel and Shy. They were originally in the film version before it was cut down, though their roles were samller. Dolly sang a new song "A Gamble Either Way" which replaced "Girl You're a Woman" - but on stage the girls were the heart of the show.
