I saw Andrea Goss go on for Elizabeth A Davis in Once, and I thought she was fine but not much more than that. I was actually kind of confused how Davis got a Tony nomination for that role because there didn't seem to be much substance or impact to the part.

To give Goss some slack in both Cabaret and Once, it can be hard to be the understudy, having little performance time and having to follow the original performer's choices to a large extent, and have the complexity and impact that the original performer might bring.
