I can't believe they think this can have a commercial run. They would be much smarter to snag a non-profit.

It's not like it's a disgrace to open in the fall at the Beaumont. It has a built in subscriber base and can generate buzz for a further run perhaps-at the very least the NY crowd who wants to see it can.

You're really sounding like a broken record. You've said this repeatedly, repeatedly, we get it, we hear you. Maybe other people think differently. Or maybe they tried this route and couldn't find a suitable partner. It's not like Lincoln Center, MTC, and Roundabout have unlimited spots in their seasons, unlimited stages, and unlimited funding resources to do every "Side Show," "The Visit" and every other show that Bwaydiva1 thinks with an exasperated sigh should go the non-profit route. They aren't just sitting there waiting for whomever comes along. Why not let it play out the way it will?

Really? Then why is the Beaumont going to be dark until the Spring? LCT sure hasn't announced a Fall or Winter production. What IS going on over there?

I think they want to rent out the beaumont to make some money. My guess is thst king and I is tacking a lot of the available cash.

I have no idea. That doesn't mean nothing, and it also doesn't mean they necessarily want to (or have the resources to) subsidize any of the out-of-town productions that bwaydiva1 thinks it's so easy to produce there. Her repeated back-seat driving about how every likely transfer should simply knock on Lincoln Center's door and make it happen seems naive. Now, maybe it will happen there. That would be great. But we don't know yet.

Why do you think they believe they have a commercial run? What in the first post says this is not going to be non-profit?

I haven't seen The Visit in any of its incarnations but from reading the recent reviews almost every critic mentions its lack of commercial potential. I agree that a limited non profit run would be their best shot. The Vineyard would be ideal.

The Vineyard has a relationship with John Kander, which would be a pro in terms of bringing in the show. But as they only do one musical a year (at most), they might be more interested in John Kander's new musical with Greg Pierce.

Also, the Vineyard is an Off-Broadway theater, and I really think everyone involved would like to bring THE VISIT to Broadway, if only for Tony Award eligibility.
