Non-traditional theaters and spaces

Posted by: TXTyler 03:19 pm EDT 08/10/14

In his/her story about Julie Wilson below, dbg mentioned the Pershing Auditorium in Nebraska, and I was curious enough to Google the theatre. It is indeed huge and a very strangely arranged theatrical space. Does anyone have stories to share about theatre performed in, for the lack of a better word, weird spaces?

I know that some shows have been performed in tents (Cats on tour in Europe and Australia), outdoor theaters (saw the wonderful Big River revival tour outside in Houston) and in sports arenas (Mamma Mia in Copenhagen had a drastically different feel due to being performed in one). I'm very interested in the adaptation of proscenium shows to new spaces. Many thanks for any stories and memories.
