Well, we know they asked Kristen Bell, so clearly they were hoping for more than one "name" lead.

Do we know if they asked Bell after Walken had already been signed?

I'm not sure I buy the whole Bell story anyway. According to the timeline, when they asked Bell, she had already announced her pregnancy. So what did they expect to do with a Peter in his third trimester?

There was a story that came out this week that Glee's Diana Agron had been offered the role but didn't want to commit that long.

As for some of the earlier suggestions. New Direction is still doing quite well still - for the time being. It'd be career suicide for any of the members to do the show. Far from a golden opportunity.

I can't think of many big names that would want to commit to a lengthy rehearsal period, much less star in the followup to the much-mocked first SOM, ratings aside.

According to the timeline, when they asked Bell, she had already announced her pregnancy.

That's not true. "Bell’s real-life pregnancy also would’ve made playing the high-flying character a challenge, although [NBC President Robert] Greenblatt said he 'talked to her before' her baby news was announced in June. (Bell charmed viewers with her multi-talents in May’s Maya Rudolph variety special on NBC.)"

Fair enough for that particular article but in one of the articles posted right here, there was a quote from someone involved with the production that they'd talk to her "last week" which time wise was nearly a month after she announced her pregnancy. Seems the story changes depending on whom talks.
