The sad truth----which has been stated here several times---but bears repeating now that the phenomenon has drawn to a close--is that all the cheering heard in the house was for the phenomenon of that sweet little film----when those meat slabs flew down the excitement was in memory and celebration of that scene---not the scene it self--the greeting Paulie, the manager and even Gazzo got was for the memory of nuanced gems of performance we remember on the screen---not the cardboard cutouts thrown at us--.and, most importantly, the final fight so praised and singled out was infected by what we knew what was going to happen---from where I sat you couldn't even tell who was winning half the time because of the insane pyrotechnics going on.
Indeed the whole experience was a memorial to a great work of film art----instead of true theatre art.
