Both Xanadu and Seussical have had major post-Broadway lives, and so are highly recognizable titles.

Does that make them two of "Broadway's biggest hits?"?

I think the negative reaction is based on what he's done of quality outside of Seinfeld and his early theatre work. Most would probably want this film to be made, but don't want another film musical failure, and may not think it is/was in the right hands. Time will, of course, tell.
