You didn't see McKechnie. Elizabeth Seal, the original star of "Irma La Douce" was hired and humiliatingly fired by Michael Bennett, who some think had wanted McKechnie all along to play the part. However, British Equity only allowed McKechnie to go on for a limited time while a suitably British Equity actress to take over.
