No offense - but - PLEASE let long running shows close at some point (less than 20 years might be nice). They're just musicals - they are fun, moving - and up until the British Musicals that Dont Require Stars, closed after 4-6 years tops.

The invention of shows like CATS and LES MIZ and PHANTOM where stars made no difference changed the game. Power ballad/scenery/costume laden shows in which it mattered not the name of the actors - together with two juke box shows (Oy Vey Mamma Mia, And Jersey Boys in Grey Scenery - that require no stars).

These become familiar and seem to run - almost - forever.

I'd rather see , in 20 years at the Majestic, one 6 year hit musical and 6-10 other revivals and new musicals, some ok, some not OK, then have Phantom go on and on and on taking up real estate.

Some say, that the theatre crunch doesnt make much difference.

I beg to differ. Without Phantom, Les Miz, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys and Lion King running forever - they could still have been big hits and made money - there likely would have been another 30-40 musicals on Broadway over the last 15 years or so. And some of them would have been good.

We CANT turn back the clock - I get it - but it would be good if in this regard we could.

IMHO.
