I gather you came up empty on an answer, which hopefully means you recognize the flaw in your premise.

I share your dislike for these perpetual runs, but you misapprehend the issue. Unless and until there are viable properties to replace the money makers, only a fool would close these shows. When you look at the last season, you see a boatload of shows that will never replace the long runners. So it strikes me as the height of folly to suggest that those shows are impeding shows from opening. The problem is not the shows hogging theatres; it is that we are producing crap and need to start producing shows that can justify turning out Phantom et al. But it is easier to rail against red herrings than reality.
