which tour ?

The Mickey Rooney & Ann Miller tour was a smash
it played to sold out crowds at Boston's Wang Center (4000+ seats) July 1983 up the street "La Cage" might have been the first pre-Broadway to tryout in the middle of the summer.

A few years earlier - a tour was breaking in at The Colonial (Fall of 1980)of Sugar Babies with Carol Channing and Robert Morse - I was living in Philly at the time so I missed it - but I would guess it was lacking the M-G-M factor of the original.
