Is old hats worth seeing

It's coming to San Fran and I see it played at signature, but it didn't pay much attention to people's comments.

The show is fun and enjoyable, but if you've seen other work by Shiner or Irwin or in that vein, it's probably similar to the other work. It's not particularly revelatory. But Shiner and Irwin are masters at what they do, and if you enjoy stuff, there's no one better.

I thought I had heard the show was being considered for a Broadway transfer. Is that completely off the table at this point?

(SPOILERS)

When I saw the show, Shiner was unlucky and picked two professional actors as audience participants for the Wild West scene, which kind of threw off the dynamic for that extended part of the show. One of them was Carson Elrod, of The Explorers Club and other shows. In Old Hats, he was originally assigned the role of the bartender, and was adeptly moving the glasses around, a skill that he might have learned from The Explorers Club!

Sorry, should say "enjoy their stuff." (nmi)

I liked it and think it's worth seeing if it's not too expensive. Some of the skits are very funny, and others are good but go on too long.

I enjoyed every bit of it at the Signature. Irwin and Shiner are geniuses; sorry I had not seen them before. I hope Nellie McKay is attached to the tour. Her songs provided hilarious comment between bits.

My feelings match yours. For instance, I was crying with laughter at Bill Irwin's magician's assistant, the most inspired drag I have ever seen (and it still brings a smile thinking about it). I could have done without all the wan musical interludes and songs, that's when I got bored.

Irwin and Shiner are masters at what they do, of course, but OLD HATS was aptly titled. For me, Nellie McKay was the show's loopy highlight.

Does it still have Nellie McKay?
