"World Take Me Back" is vintage Herman, so full of syncopation and catchy melody. It's a great Merman song. Unfortunately, it voices pretty much the same sentiment as "Before the Parade..." I never understood how it worked in the show, since Dolly must arrive at her epiphany and then ... sort of have it more fully, i.e. with choral participation behind her, shortly thereafter. I suppose it can be parsed, that "World" states a goal and "Parade" affirms an assumed immediate result. But redundancy comes to mind, at least out of contex. I heard -- AlanScott reported, I'm sure of it -- that Merman simply walked down on the runway and sang "World," with no special staging or focus. I don't know what exchange of dialog segued into it.
