Broadway Song for my sister's wedding

Posted by: Broadway_Baritone 03:57 am EDT 08/13/14

Hey guys, I searched the thread (because I KNOW this has probably been posted about 1,000 times and someone is bound to post something nasty towards me), but here's the thing:

My sister is getting married and I would like to sing something special for her! Years ago I sang "You Are My Home" for my cousin's wedding, and am kind of looking for something like that.

1). NO overdone musicals (Phantom, Wicked, etc)

2). NO songs that have parts that are weird outside of the context of the show. (I really wanted to sing "Make Someone Happy" from Do Re Mi, but the beginning is odd and the chorus is too short.

3). I'm singing TO my sister, so nothing overtly weird that way.

Any suggestions?! Thank you in advance!!!

Other songs I have been throwing around are "Fable" from Light in the Piazza (a little heavy perhaps) and "Music in You" from Cinderella (a little dramatic).

maybe "It's Love" from Wonderful Town?

That might work as singing TO someone in love (rather than as it was intended, sung by someone who finds himself in love0

How about something like The Human Heart from Once on This Island?

Well there's always "More I Cannot Not Wish You" from Guys & Dolls.

"The Human Heart" from Once On This Island
"Forever Yours" also from OOTI, but you'd need to change some lyrics like to "You are forever his and he is yours", and of course drop the part when Death comes in.

"Married" from Cabaret (though some of the lyrics are a little specific, perhaps you can change/personalize them)

Very often done, but "Sunrise, Sunset" also with some lyric changes to make it about you and your sister, growing up, her finding love, etc.

And you could rewrite "Not Getting Married Today" to something like "You're Getting Married Today" and make it about her somehow.

But if it were me, I'd sing "Lot's Wife" from Caroline Or Change.

"Till There Was You" - "Music Man"

Gershwin's "Someone to Watch over Me" - just change the last word of the phrase "although she many not be the girl some guys think of as handsome" instead to "winsome" - to avoid insulting the bride inadvertently
