I can sympathize with your desire to get a movie made of PARADE so that you're all concerned who's a big enough star to achieve this. However, I don't think JGL's love of musicals matters an iota; I question whether his still very boyish look is right for Leo Frank; and Knight is a very fine actor, no matter what he or his reps haven't done for his career.

I very much doubt a movie will be made but if Depp was at all interested, THAT's probably the only way it would get done. HE is a big star.

JGL is a star. He isn't a star on the level of Johnny Depp, but there are what, 5 or so men in the English speaking world who are? JGL is nonetheless an actual legit star with legit influence and a legit fan base. He helps get things made and helps them open well. T.R. Knight was one of many leads of a popular but niche tv medical soap... when he played Leo in LA, he was barely a name even then. He is not a star. And though a talent actor he is certainly in no way the only one, or even one of the few, who could play this role in a movie or otherwise (besides the fact that he doesn't look like Leo Frank, which isn't actually necessary, I admit).

But my desire to see a movie of Parade get made has little to do with talking about who is a big enough star... I think JGL could be great in the role, and I've seen T.R. Knight do it and I don't think anyone needs to find a way to make a movie of it with him in the lead, regardless of his star size. JGL is a big star who could possibly get the movie made, or actually be cast if a big director wanted to make it and got the money to do so somehow. It's not as if I suggested Matt Damon, who is all wrong for it (regardless of singing) or Russell Crowe who can't really sing just cause he's a name.

JGL would actually be on a top tier casting list for this role, TR Knight would not.

Bradley Cooper could also get it made and might also be good for the role if he slimmed down, had some make-up, and could sing (i don't know if he could).

You need a real singer for Leo, too. Being 'better than Johnny Depp' doesn't really cut it for this role.

As I said, I do not know the power or range of his voice... I know he has a good voice, already knowing he is better than Depp. You need a real singer for Sweeney, that didn't stop Depp from wanting to do it or being cast, and though the movie is nowhere near as good as it could be, it is still pretty good despite the singing. Many would say Brent Carver isn't "really a great singer", which I've never understood, but I've heard it nonetheless.

My point was, he might be good enough, or able to get good enough, to sing the role... and in a movie you have the ability to do many takes and post production assistance until it's good enough... and can also mix his voice with a stronger voice of someone else when it's required and make it sound natural. The point is I think he can sing, he can act, I think he's right for the role in many ways, and he would most likely want to do it, and he is a star actor. There are lots of actors who can REALLY sing it but would never be cast because they aren't big stars, and many big stars who could get it made but could never pull the role off the way it needs to be... JGL is at least a happy medium.

But no one has probably even discussed a movie of Parade in a serious way, so this is just random talk because there are going to be two movies of JRB musicals.
