In addition to her Broadway credits, Bacall did a tour of Wonderful Town in 1977 that played the Music Fair Circuit as well as proscenium theatres in Miami and Dallas (and perhaps elsewhere, too). Arvin Brown directed, and George Hearn played Bob Baker.

In 1985, she played Alexandra del Lago in Sweet Bird of Youth in London (after a pre-London tour), direced by Harold Pinter. In 1986 she did it at the Ahmanson, with a different cast, directed by Michael Blakemore.

And in 1995, she played Claire Zachanassian in The Visit at Chichester, directed by Terry Hands, with Joss Ackland as Alfred Ill. (Interestingly in light of one of our recent discussions, that is the character's original name and his name in the Patrick Bowles translation. Is it possible that they did not use the Valency adaptation?)

Is it just a coincidence that four of her leading men were also Sondheim leading men? Of course, the show with Hearn preceded his association with Sondheim.

Something that may not show up in her obituaries: she was known for not missing performances. She probably missed a few later in life, but she was a trouper.

Lauren Bacall came up to Boston to do LOVE LETTERS at the Wilbur Theatre for a week with Richard Kiley. It was the first time they had worked together.

Eric Flynn played Bill Sampson opposite Bacall in London immediately after having played Robert in Company for the last few months of its London run (having started as Larry in the production).

According to their website announcing the 1995 season, Chichester used the Valency adaptation of THE VISIT.

I wonder if the critic in whose review I read Alfred Ill used the name even though it was perhaps not used in the production.
