JGL is a star. He isn't a star on the level of Johnny Depp, but there are what, 5 or so men in the English speaking world who are? JGL is nonetheless an actual legit star with legit influence and a legit fan base. He helps get things made and helps them open well. T.R. Knight was one of many leads of a popular but niche tv medical soap... when he played Leo in LA, he was barely a name even then. He is not a star. And though a talent actor he is certainly in no way the only one, or even one of the few, who could play this role in a movie or otherwise (besides the fact that he doesn't look like Leo Frank, which isn't actually necessary, I admit).

But my desire to see a movie of Parade get made has little to do with talking about who is a big enough star... I think JGL could be great in the role, and I've seen T.R. Knight do it and I don't think anyone needs to find a way to make a movie of it with him in the lead, regardless of his star size. JGL is a big star who could possibly get the movie made, or actually be cast if a big director wanted to make it and got the money to do so somehow. It's not as if I suggested Matt Damon, who is all wrong for it (regardless of singing) or Russell Crowe who can't really sing just cause he's a name.

JGL would actually be on a top tier casting list for this role, TR Knight would not.

Bradley Cooper could also get it made and might also be good for the role if he slimmed down, had some make-up, and could sing (i don't know if he could).
