I think given the stats of ROI for Broadway shows in general, I am not sure your last sentence is really applicable. Unless you are investing in a transfer of a known hit, or a secondary or touring production of a known hit, all Broadway shows are highly speculative, and even something that seems like a "hot ticket" can very easily turn out not to be. And in this specific case, these titles are known, revivals, and Porgy and Pippin both had well received out of town tryouts, including one of the most revered stars of the musical theatre (Ms. McDonald). I wouldn't say the chance to invest in these shows is so shabby.

There are degrees of speculativeness, however. A show with a top rung star is not generally very speculative, and the usual suspects will snap up the opportunities before it even hits the street. The other major consideration is the numbers. Some shows (as has been rehearsed here several times with regard to this one) have the numbers so stacked against it as to make it extremely speculative. There is, perhaps surprisingly, a great deal of erudition in theatrical investing just as there is in every other investment, and if you look, you will notice that the usual suspects are not generally heavily subscribed in such shows (as they are not in this one, hence the desperate search for money via a different "platform."

If a production of On The Town with no stars and no unique concept, ie Pippin-Circus, I cannot see how this show can possibly recoup.

I agree. And also given its track record. However, the point I was making was that I don't think there really IS a group of shows that are any more of a sure thing that people on the "inside" of Broadway investing have access to, as opposed to the type of novice investor that might use this new platform. We've seen too many high profile flops of shows that seemed to have the makings of a hit for this to be true.
