Is this a completely new song?

Well, the first part of that quote could have been better phrased!

At any rate: Is "Rainbows" really a new song written especially for Meryl Streep? According to a Playbill article published September 24, about the cast recording of the Keen Company's 2012 production of MARRY ME A LITTLE, "This updated production...featured several new songs, including 'Rainbows,' a duet penned for the Baker and his Wife in a previous film treatment of Into the Woods. It replaced 'Two Fairytales.'"

So, is the song that has been cut from the upcoming film a completely or partly new song titled "Rainbows," or is it basically a solo version of the duet, now sung by the witch instead of the Baker and his Wife? I guess we'll find out if it's included as a bonus for home video.

You're right. "Rainbows" is/was not the new song for the Witch. For all we know, that song is still in the movie.

The title of the new song for the Witch was never revealed (to the best of my knowledge).

Nothing in the article refers to the cut song as "Rainbows." I think it's entirely possible that Rainbows never made it into this script and that the cut song for Streep was something else entirely.

So it seems "Rainbows" is NOT the title of the song that was cut.
