Replacing the reason for creating the miracle be it saving themselves from eradication of Scottish culture or from witches seems a rather minor point to me. In fact, it sounds like saving Scottish culture gives it an even more romantic notion.

I think rooting fantasy in real life can be quite engaging. HARRY POTTER does just that and very successfully. For a musical reference, so does DAMN YANKEES. But then again, I haven't seen it so I don't know if the changes are simply a matter of not trusting the original material or if it doesn't effect the show's charm at all. I do hope the show transfers to New York. I would love to see a production of BRIGADOON.
