mendacity, thank you for the link! I would have to agree that I think Moonfall has a beautiful melody and that I would have thought Streisand's version would be stunning, but it's not as good as I hoped it would be. It seems a little slow and tentative.

I think the whole project got shelved, not just Moonfall. This recording came out of the sessions that Rupert Holmes did with Streisand for a proposed follow-up to The Broadway Album that never happened. The eventual follow-up, Back to Broadway, was released several years later with different collaborators. (And isn't it time for another Broadway album? It's been 20 years since Back to Broadway.)
