Sondheim can be so supportive to cabaret artists. He once came to see Tom Andersen, who sang a number of his tunes, including ''Anyone Can Whistle'' and ''Our Time,'' at Weill Recital Hall. Sondheim even went backstage and told Tom he was terrific.
