| Strap on your stilettos cause this is war! URBAN MOMFARE 3 Shows Remaining at Theatre 80 Part of The New York International Fringe Festival ★★★★ “Alice Jankell directs a cute, clever and sincere exploration of 17 years of mommyhood…these talented ladies ably juggle the score’s cunning rhymes.” – Time Out New York Critic’s Pick “Urban Momfare is campy fun that punches with comedic jabs…endearing and filled with heart.” - Theater In The Now “I loved the show. URBAN MOMFARE is charming, cheeky, heartfelt and just a down right fun show.” – NY Theater Now New York, NY -- Urban Momfare premiered to a sold-out house on Saturday night at the 2014 New York International Fringe Festival. Only three performances remain. Why don't we ever hear songs about moms not actually liking their kids? This romp through motherhood on Manhattan's Upper East Side spans 17 years: "Music For Gifted and Talented Babies" to bra straps and Bellinis. Book by Pamela Weiler Grayson and Alice Jankell, music and lyrics by Pamela Weiler Grayson, directed by Alice Jankell and musical direction by Clare Cooper. Urban Momfare is being produced by Emerging Artists Theatre Company (EAT). A workshop performance of the musical was previously presented at EAT’s New Work Series in March of 2013. “What drew me to Urban Momfare was its great use of humor and humanity in a musical comedy,” said Emerging Artists Theatre’s Artistic Director Paul Adams. “I think everyone who sees it will identify with having known one of these people or may be one themselves.” The production stars Tiffan Borelli (More Of Our Parts/The Kennedy Center), Antonietta Corvinelli (The Reunion/Hudson Guild), Sandi DeGeorge (Camelot/National Tour), Cheryl Howard (The Sensational Josephine Baker/Theatre Row), Christine Toy Johnson (The Music Man/Broadway), Christiana Little (The Bardy Bunch/Theatre at St. Clements) and Sarah Rosenthal (Ragtime/Broadway). Ben Swope, costume design by Nicole Wee, sound design by Nick Gossett, projection design by David Bengali, and stage management by Deidre Works. About Emerging Artists: Emerging Artists Theatre acts as an incubator for new voices from the page to the stage. EAT was founded 22 years ago to provide a dynamic home where playwrights and artists explore their work from their imagination and guide it through development towards full artistic realization. It is a process that involves audience interaction with the artists and enables the artists to be the key ingredient in the development of their work. EAT is proud to have given that opportunity to over 3000 artists since its inception. | |
