re: LA: La Mirada Theatre to produce a new version of CARRIE

Why would you give La Mirada the benefit - it's the director who will create this "immersive" production - I really do believe he was the director who was going to create the aborted "immersive" production at the Hayworth. Floyd Collins had a different director.

"Why would you give La Mirada the benefit...Floyd Collins had a different director."

True enough; I was mostly responding to AnyaS, who says she feels like she's talking to herself when giving props to La Mirada. I thought it was only fair to let her know that someone else was both listening, and in agreement that management seems to be doing some things right.

But I will say that the putative "Carrie" director, Brady Schwind, did a damn good job with "Parade" at a little theater in Palos Verdes Estates six years ago. A subsequent try at "Our Leading Lady" was much less fortunate, but "Parade" suggested he's not a hack, so that makes me hopeful.

Finally found it since people apparently have very short memories. Yes, this very same, this exact same "immersive production" with this same exact team, was announced last year in March of 2013 for the Hayworth Theater. It never opened.

I can't wait for it to open here - I can basically write the reviews now if you get my meaning. :)

Because nothing guarantees objective reviews than deciding you dislike something before actually seeing it.

I would hope the critics of the area would go in with an open mind. I feel sorry for those who can't.

Why do I need to see it? I don't care for the score, I don't care for the script - not my cup of tea. So, of course I can say I don't like the show without having to see this particular immersive production. As to the critics, I believe that most of them will LOVE it. That's pretty much the LA way.

I, too, am struggling with the tone of this post, Bruce. It's got to be harder to produce a one-off at the Hayworth than to produce at a theater with a solid subscription base. Most shows have struggled to survive at the Hayworth, and it's a nice little theater. And is it really so surprising that an "announced" production didn't open? In this economy?

I agree with your assessment of CARRIE, but I think it's fair to wait until the production opens before you write the review.

I have stated what my post was about three times. I have not written a "review" as I am not a reviewer. I doubt I will even see the show as it does not interest me.

And with all the press given to the aborted production, sure it was very surprising.

If the show doesn't interest you why did you click on the link and continue to engage questions over and over? If you're not seeing it and it doesn't interest, then why do you say you can't wait for it to open?

If you can pose your question in some form of language I can comprehend I'm happy to answer it. I've stated my point, so I'm beginning to find your responses peculiar - in other words, this thread had died but you had to come in and make yet another post so I would have to make another response? Seems a little odd to me, but what do I know.

There is nothing funnier than someone criticizing another person's writing and then making errors in their response. It never gets old.

This thread's last post came two days before I replied. Forgive me for not checking this website every single day. Whenever someone whines about a dead thread being revived, it's usually said out of frustration or embarrassment. Maybe people kept replying because you did a lousy job of explaining why you seem so inexplicably bitter about this production.

I have no idea why you find my responses so peculiar, or what you're insinuating. I've stated my real name and profession several times on this board. I don't have any connection to any theaters, if that's what you're implying. You sound paranoid.

I'll leave you alone now since you come unglued whenever someone "revives" a thread that you're hoping will just die already. Can't say I blame you in this case.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but why does it bother you so much that it's the same production that got canceled at Hayworth? Why all the glee? What am I missing here?

Glee? I neither watch the show and I don't really see evidence of any glee in this thread. I find it amusing that everyone is acting like a) Carrie is "now-classic" (it isn't) and b) that no one is mentioning that this is the same exact thing that didn't happen last year - why would you hide that information? It's peculiar to me.

Well, there are obvious reasons why it wouldn't be mentioned in a press release, and I'm sure you know exactly what those are.

As to why other people in the thread weren't mentioning it, I have to assume they either didn't know or didn't think it was germane to the discussion.

Your mentions of it, however, make it seem like you think the producers are trying to pull one over on the public by trying again after the first attempt failed. But if the producers believe in their project (regardless whether or not Bruce Kimmel believes in it), why shouldn't they try again?

Thanks, RobbGrn. I heard great stuff about that production of Parade but didn't realize that Schwind did that too. Good to know. And yes, they're doing a great job.
