Licia Albanese, 1909-2014, RIP

Opera soprano Licia Albanese passed away yesterday at the age of 105. In addition to her operatic roles (especially Puccini), she sang "One More Kiss" with Erie Mills in the "Follies in Concert" performance from Lincoln Center.

MetOpera Radio has been playing a recording of La Boheme in memory of Carlo Bergonzi who also passed away recently. Licia Albanese is the Mimi on the recording. So now this becomes a double memorial to 2 of the Met's greatest artists each of whom was blessed with both a beautiful voice and a long life.

She helped start my lifelong obsession with Bizet's "Carmen" when my Mom bought me the RCA Victor Rise Stevens LP of highlights when I was 15. Thank you, Ms. Albanese !
