Tonys win an Emmy

Tom Kitt and Lin-Manuel Miranda have won the Emmy for Original Music and Lyrics for their song "Bigger" which opened the 2013 Tony Awards. This was, for me, one of the best Tony numbers ever. A very well-deserved award.

This is the third year in a row that the Tonys have won the Emmy for Music and Lyrics. David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger (Tony nominees for ''Cry-Baby'') won for ''It's Not Just for Gays Anymore'' (2012) and ''If I Had Time'' (2013).

A couple of other theater-related Emmy winners:
* ''The Normal Heart'' for Makeup for Miniseries/TV Movie
* ''Sound of Music Live!'' for Technical Direction

The Normal Heart lost a lot of awards which I hope doesn't hurt its chances for the other awards to be presented on the main program.

Update: the 2013 Tonys have won the Emmy for Special Class Program.

yes it does. He won his Grammy in 2009
