Dakin Matthews is a great actor who has given some fantastic performances. As was said, he is the opposite of an untalented hack. He is not a strong singer, though. (I believe that this is the first musical in his distinguished acting career.) However, the bigger problem is that his song is not very good, not staged in a very interesting way, and is unnecessary. The song stops forward momentum and really should have been cut.
