Patrick, I appreciate your reviews here. You don't just automatically fawn over the shows to stay in producers' good graces, but provide equal positives and negatives. I look forward to future reviews from you.

I wonder, however, if La Streisand's performance is so fresh in audience members' minds that they immediately compare any other Fanny to her. When they buy their tickets, when they are seated as the orchestra is tuning, are they really thinking "She better be as good as Barbra."?

I'm certainly no Streisand fanatic. (That gene is not as strong in this gay man's DNA.) And I can never remember if a song or scene was from Funny Girl or Funny Lady. If I were to see a production of FG I would not be going in wondering how this Fanny compares to Barbra's.

I see that Hillbarn is also doing FG this season. Now that would be a fun comparison, comparing the shows between the two companies. I've been impressed with what Hillbarn presents on that tiny oddly-shaped stage. I went in to "Spamalot" not expecting much but was happily surprised . . . except for the disastrous wardrobe malfunction with the Black Knight losing his limbs before Arthur's sword touched them. (cringe)

Ok, I've hijacked this thread long enough! :)

Thank you, Patrick.

I give my honest opinion in every review, and try to give enough information to help people decide whether or not they want to see a particular show. I prefer to give good reviews - but you have to put on a good show for that to happen!

I'm not a diva man myself, either. (Though if I had one, it would likely be k.d. lang, not Barbra.) But good on you to be able to go in without expectations. I make every attempt to do that, but when those songs start, it's hard not to think of Mrs. James Brolin!
