It's quite different from other tour cities. In most cities, presenters pay a guarantee to the producers. If they sell enough tickets to "profit" above the guarantee and running costs (local crew, advertising, etc) that profit is split between presenter and producers. In SF much of the time these days, SHN refuses to pay a full guarantee, often paying as little as half, and doing a "shared risk" scenario. Now, if the show is a big smash hit, both parties make more money. But if it does "okay," producers could lose money. So when Sac and San Jose can approach and do a standard deal, they're far more attractive. It's worth mentioning that Nederlander's run San Jose (and a number of other markets which do, I believe, operate on a standard presenting deal). So with her out of the picture, perhaps SF will return to the traditional model and more shows will find SF appealing.
