Adolescence is a messy, uncertain, and confusing time for many people, and at evoking those particular feelings, Caroline Prugh’s new play at the Hartley House, It’s Only Kickball, Stupid, is unquestionably adept. You never doubt while watching its depiction of coming of age in the 1980s, complete with unbridled enthusiasm, temper tantrums, conflicted opinions about everything from people to sports to corn chips, and percolating hormones that Prugh kept her eyes open and her brain active during her own pre-teen years. Rare indeed are the depictions of this time that pinpoint the aches of growing up with the clarity this one does. . . .
