I'm not sure if advance tickets were ever really available to nonsubscribers. If memory serves, people subscribed specifically for Assassins, and the tickets that had not been set aside for subscribers were set aside for house seats, journalists and celebrities. Throughout the run, there was a waiting-listing line of people every day outside Playwrights Horizons, hoping to get tickets for that day's performance, but there were usually no more than three or four available. I heard a story back then that one evening Carol Burnett showed up at 7:30 and just expected she'd get in, and they told her no, there were no tickets. But then they did manage to get her a seat. In any case, the run was essentially sold out well before previews started. I think there was some talk that despite the negative reviews, the show might still transfer either to Broadway or a commercial Off-Broadway run, but that never happened (obviously).
