"It seems to me that if he was avoiding outing himself he'd use all the female pronouns." Agreed. The original post is confusingly worded, but the larger point of gender specific pronouns in songs being changed (or not changed) by singers is an interesting one. Of course, sometimes the changes wreak havoc on the rhyme scheme, or mess up the song in other ways. One of the worst examples is how some male singers changed the lyrics of "Someone to Watch Over Me" from "Although he may not be the man some girls think of as handsome" to "although she may not be the girl some men think of as pretty," or something awful like that.
