Actually, the original lyric is "likes" not "loves." The word "love" does not appear in any form in the original, except in "funny, 'cause I love to go travelling." I wouldn't be surprised if the male variant is in the sheet music version - stuff like that was done all the time so that anyone could sing any given song.
