though I did mention other example of people changing lyrics for auditions, nightclubs, etc. as well as the "As Long As He/She Needs Me".

I remember once a woman auditioning with "Hey There" who changed the ending to:

"won't you take this advice I hand you like a SISTER..."

(which rhymes with what, pray tell..."and out the ister?") ;-)

I mean, even Clooney sang "mother" and it worked just fine lol.

The only "standard" pronoun change in a song that I despise is when men (even if he's Sinatra, lol) do "The Lady Is A Tramp" and naturally change all of the pronouns to "she" (well, what else would they do, lol). Problem is in the perception. I think it's one thing for a woman to poke fun at herself using the word "tramp" - but it sounds very different to me when a man calls a woman by that term. It changes the feel of the song completely, iMO.
