Broadway Grosses 9/7 — September cool down but “It's Only A Play” red hot

  • For the week ended Sunday, Broadway grosses totaled $19,843,322 for 24 shows, down over $3 million from the prior week which totaled $22,905,607 for 25 shows. In the comparable post-Labor Day week last year, 24 shows grossed $18,374,971.


  • All shows were down except It’s Only A Play which went from playing five previews the prior week to a full week of eight previews. It grossed $1,163,626, averaging nearly $138 a ticket. The play did better than Beautiful, knocking the latter down one spot on the top ten grossing list.


  • Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill was dark last week. The show returns this week and continues through October 5.


  • Of the family shows, now that the kids are back to school, Matilda dropped the most: $-293,735.
