Because normally the only staged readings held as Broadway benefits are readings of plays or musicals; not screenplays of films... that have been turned into high-profile Broadway-bound musicals.

So it's perfectly fine that they hold a benefit reading of this screenplay. You just have to understand why people may have been scratching their head at first-- they were probably expecting to read about a staged reading of a Broadway-bound musical on this board before reading about a staged reading of that musical's 20-year-old screenplay.

No reason for the sass! :P
