I hate to break it to you, but with limited exceptions not relevant here, we live in precisely that world. If you wanna change that, I'll join you arm in arm.

But that is not the point here. My issue is not with the expression of surprise that the lights are not being dimmed. Hell, if I controlled the switch, I'd dim the lights. But it taints the meaning of individual expression, by an individual or group, to have their decided sentiment somehow overruled by public sentiment (or, more properly, that slice of public sentiment that seems to be up in arms about this world crisis."

I do not want to give up my right to express my own personal sentiment, and the idea that the theatre owners should yield to an external force is chilling to me. That does not mean that I do not think Joan deserves it, nor does it mean that I would vote against the nationalization of Broadway theatres, were that put to a vote. But do not confuse either of those with what is involved here.
