Speaking of St. Patrick's Day, the parade is run by a private organization, so if they [historically] want to ban gay groups from marching, we should all sit back, shut up, and take it. Clearly, the lights-dimming is at a different level, but the principle is the same. When people don't like what an organization is doing, they can pressure that organization to make changes.
