I don't think it is comparable: the outcry was not a public one but from journalists who were (and are) a constituency and a franchise at issue; it was not a public outcry.

I've explained my only interest in this is in relation to the conversion of a private gesture into some sort of public opinion survey. I think when you own a theatre (or anything else), you get to decide what to display and not display, and even what to call yourself. I think Ms. St Martin has done some dumb things and said even more dumb things, and so have the folks who pay her to be their mouthpiece. But that doesn't deprive them of their right to decide who to honor, who to mourn, and who to ignore. Just like in baseball!
